Herts Regional College students seek investment from local Dragons!

Get Connected's Chief Executive, Nicci Statham was absolutely honoured to be part of this year's great challenge.

Group 1 WinnerStudents from Hertford Regional College undertaking a 20-week Entry to Employment (E2E) Basic Skills Construction programme presented their enterprise ideas to a local group of employers 'Dragons Den style' at Broxbourne Housing Association on 7th May 2009.

Group 2 WinnerThe students designed a marketable products and sought investment from Broxbourne's finest employers including Steven Johnson from Garden Barber Ltd; Stacey Holmes from Snip and Clip; Loretta Borg, Volunteer Bureau Broxbourne; Nicci Statham, Chief Executive from Get Connected;  John Giesen, Chief Executive, Broxbourne Housing Association.

Group 3 WinnerThe students whilst learning the basics of bricklaying, carpentry and electricals as part of a City and Guilds qualification are also studying a BTEC Work Skills Award which develops personal, social and employability skills. For some students this was their first ever recognisable qualification having previously been classified as NEET (not in education, employment or training). The course aims to offer qualifications, experiences and skills which will ensure each learner positively progresses into further education, training or employment.

Group 2 WinnerPhil Stock, Lecturer explains: "The Dragons Den presentations have been setup to allow students the opportunity to gain relevant employment and personal skills which will benefit their future careers. Being able to plan, problem solve and work as a team are fantastic employment skills to have, not to mention the experience of giving a presentation and taking part in an interview. When you think that most of these students were doing nothing six months ago, it's a remarkable achievement that they have come this far".
