The Tesco team braved the cold weather and spent the day digging out allotment beds!
The project between Tesco staff and Hailey Hall School is part of a programme of projects the school is focusing on to create an eco-logically friendly, sustainable and educational area for its students. The project was facilitated from a partnership between us here at Get Connected and Broxbourne & Hoddesdon Extended Schools Consortium (none other than Jo Goldsmith).
Jon Ascot, assistant head teacher at Hailey Hall who designed the allotment commented, “This is the first of three growing projects here at the school. We are planning a sensory garden and the development of our woodland area too. The day has proved to be a huge success, engaging both the students and the staff. We would like to thank the team from Tesco for taking the time to come over and help, they have all worked extremely hard."
Melissa Sharland, International Sourcing Operations Manager for Tesco said, “At Tesco we are trying hard to do more voluntary work within our local communities. This project has been just the beginning. We hope to come back soon to check on the progress that the students would have made?
Get Connected and school representatives presented each member of staff with a certificate at the end of the long day to acknowledge their valued contribution.
The vegetable garden project is the start of a series of planned activities by the school, a special school for boys aged between 11 and 16.
