Tesco Staff get 'On the Train' in Community Project
The project was part of Tesco’s commitment to local community initiatives. Staff from the Technical Clothing team at head office left their desks for the day, accepted the challenge and spent the day constructing, building and clearing!
The project between Tesco staff and Pinewood School is part of a programme of projects the school is focusing on for their Outdoor Learning Programme. The school has 150 pupils with moderate learning difficulties who attend on a daily basis from all over Hertfordshire.
The Traverse wall and other areas are a great way to keep fit, build confidence, develop teamwork and increase personal problem solving skills.
Adrian Lloyd, head teacher at Pinewood commented, “The Tesco team did a great job, we had a clear idea of what we wanted to achieve on the day – however, the team really exceeded our expectations. Our students are now going to have a great physical activity in the Traverse wall, greater access to the learning in the science garden and be able to use our railway track – something which has not been accessible in years. Their contribution will enable the students to develop their skills so much more in these outside environments. We would like to thank the team for taking the time to come and help, they all worked extremely hard!"
Alan Wragg, Category Technical Director for for Tesco Clothing said, “As part of the Tesco Community Plan there are different types of community work going on in various local communities involving different Tesco teams. We were delighted to be involved with this Pinewood School and Get Connected project. It was great to give something back to the local community and we had a lot of fun doing it."
Nicci Statham, Founder of Get Connected commented, “Get Connected exists to engage a range of local businesses in community activities, however the willingness and commitment from this Tesco team was truly admirable - they achieved such a lot in a day! This is such a great example of how businesses of all sizes can work in partnership in their local communities…"
Get Connected presented each member of Tesco staff with a certificate at the end of the long day to acknowledge their valued contribution to the East Herts community.
