Tesco & RoselandTesco Staff get challenged in Woodland Trail Project

April 2009, Tesco Staff pull together for a Hoddesdon based school challenge!

14 staff from Cheshunt head office joined the students and staff at Roselands School on 2nd April to create a fantastic woodland trail for the primary school. The team left their office for the day, accepted the challenge and spent the day trailing and tunnelling!

The project between Tesco staff and Roselands School is part of a programme of projects the school is focusing on to create educational and natural areas for its children to learn about and observe the natural environment. The project was brought to life from a growing partnership between Get Connected, a local social enterprise, and the Broxbourne & Hoddesdon Extended Schools Consortium.

Tesco & RoselandJane Carson, head teacher at Roselands commented, “There really was a lot to complete on the day, including clearing big areas at the back of the school to enable the children to explore safely. The staff from Tesco made huge inroads, supporting us to achieve the first stage of our outside development programme. Their contribution will enable the children to learn so much more about the outside habitat. We would like to thank the team for taking the time to come and help, they all worked extremely hard!

Ruth Jordan, Analyst for Tesco said, “At Tesco we are trying hard to do more voluntary work within our local communities. This project got us to work together as a team and it was great how the children just got on with it - they were all so positive and did not seem at all daunted by the task ahead! We managed to complete such a lot on the day, so we will be in touch very soon to see how the children are enjoying their new woodland trail."

Nicci Statham, Chief Executive of Get Connected commented, “Get Connected exists to engage a range of local businesses in community activities, however the willingness and dedication from all those who came from Tesco to complete this project was truly admirable. This is such a great example of how businesses of all sizes can work in partnership in their local communities…"

Get Connected presented each member of Tesco staff with a certificate at the end of the long day to acknowledge their valued contribution to the Broxbourne community.
