Tesco & Widford School
Tesco Staff get in deep to find a Pond that can be dipped!
Friday 3rd July 2009, Tesco Staff wading in at Widford School
19 Tesco staff joined the students and staff at Widford near Ware on 3rd July to clear and create the amazing Pond Dipping experience! They also created a tranquil environmental space with a woodland path!
The project was part of Tesco’s commitment to local community initiatives. Staff from the Express, Metro and Project Planning department at head office left their desks for the day, accepted the challenge and spent the day clearing, wading and creating!
The project between Tesco staff and Widford School formed the essence of two key challenges the school has needed to complete for over 2 years. The lovely primary school is a key part of the Widford village and heart of its local community.
Diane Penn, head teacher at Widford commented, “I am absolutely amazed and felt quite emotional about what the teams have managed to complete today. We never would have been able to get these two educational areas accessible for the children on our own. The Tesco team did a fantastic job, we are so grateful for their hard work and dedication."
Diane presented the team with a gold plaque, commemorating the event and acknowledging Tesco for their valuable contribution.
Samantha Culver, Head of Metro, Express and Project Planning for Tesco said, “At Tesco we are trying hard to do more voluntary work within our local communities. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I know the team did too. It was well facilitated and great to get involved"
Nicci Statham, Chief Executive of Get Connected commented, “We have done a few projects with Tesco head office teams now, however this was definitely the most fun! The teams really got stuck in, worked as a team to complete the two big projects, and had such fun whilst doing it! Get Connected exists to engage a range of local businesses in community activities and this is such a great example of how local businesses can work in partnership in their communities…"
Get Connected presented each member of Tesco staff with a certificate at the end of the long day to acknowledge their valued contribution to the East Hertfordshire community.
